It was Sunday and I was heading down town to meet up with my friends for brunch.
I was just sitting and minding my own business when a boy (seemingly young in his early 20s, maybe even younger) got on the bus and took the seat in front of me. He was on the phone with a friend of his. I could feel the anxiety coming trough his voice. He said something along the lines of : "Ah, I got on the bus but I am not sure if it is even in the right direction. I am not even sure what stop I should get off at."

And then I thought: You are using your phone to have a 15-min conversation but you cannot check your route on google maps? Really? Why did you even get on the bus if you have no idea where you are going?
Anyway, he was indeed headed towards the wrong direction and got off the bus at some point. But this situation really spartkled me to think about how this happens all the time in life. I was quick to judge his action (or lack of such) but maybe I was seeing myself in these circumstances?
Today's world of information overload and outrageous society expectations we live in seems to pressure us to get on the bus even if we are not certain whether we are on the right track. The fear of falling behind everyone else is sometimes stronger than the one of ending up at the wrong place. Sign up for the course, get the degree, secure the job, buy the house. And you don't even stop to question it because you know you have to keep moving. In our busy lifestyle we seem to forget the importance of stepping away for a moment to evaluate where we are at, where we would like to go, and how we would like to get there. Having the time to stay still and determine a direction that matters is far more valuable than driving towards the unknown just for the sake of being in motion.

In case you purposefully want to explore some new horizonts and see what other possibilities are out there…then maybe it’s best to take as many transports available and see what suits you the best. Remember, just because someone else has decided to jump on a particular bus doesn’t mean that this is the best route for you.
So.. are you sure where you have been heading is exactly where you want to go?
Sincerely Yours,
Elena
